The Ghetto Film School
When All Else Fails: Gaffer's Tape

Located in the South Bronx, The Ghetto Film School's mission is to "educate, develop, and celebrate the next generation of great American storytellers."

GFS had a powerful mission, and needed a disruptive, non-conventional identity system to do it justice.

Filmmaking at the school is taught from a DIY perspective. You might not always have access to the best production technologies, but with ingenuity and creativity you’ll find a way to execute your vision. Often times, gaffer’s tape fills in where high end equipment is lacking, and we used this symbol of boot-strap production as the basis for GFS’ entire identity.

Typographically, we developed custom software to randomly generate letter forms based on a bank of hundreds of strips of torn and scanned tape.
